The Crown by Kiera Cass

4.0

The Crown is the last novel in The Selection series by the lovely Kiera Cass. This final book completes the story of America Singer's daughter Eadlyn and the first female-led Selection she takes part in.

Overall I really enjoyed this book and series as a whole. Like most everyone I did much prefer the original three but it was still a good and interesting story. I definitely appreciated this book much more then The Heir which is the first book Eadlyn appears in. Many reviews were pointing out how bratty and rude she was in The Heir and I completely agree. I think she does take a complete turn around in this last book. She learns to love and appreciate the people around her more and shows many signs of being a selfless and strong ruler.

It's a pretty rare occurrence for me to visibly cry while reading a book but the last quarter of this story really got to me. This could very well be a mixture of my tiredness and the fact it was nearly 1:30 am when i finished this book, but we'll go with it was entirely the books fault. I was very interested in seeing who she would pick. At the beginning, though she was beginning to appreciate and enjoy the boys company, especially as she cut them down to the Elite, it didn't seem she was falling completely head over heels for anyone or even had a strong connection to any particular boy. As I kept reading I had one boy in mind that I loved but felt like they wouldn't have a chance together. I was completely enthralled into the story every boy that Eadlyn sent home. I was pleasantly surprised in the last few chapters when she finally made her choice. I really loved how this book kept me guessing, and how we don't really ever know who she'll pick in the end. With the original Selection it is pretty obvious who Maxon is going to choose by book three.

The one thing I really wish we got to see more of was romance. Through most of the book we got much more a feeling of friendship between Eadlyn and the boys instead of romance between anyone. By the end I was aching for more cute moments. Especially when it was official who she would marry, I really wanted to see more of them together. I can understand why there was significantly less romance; Eadlyn was never suppose to fall in love, but still.
