The Confession by Jessie Burton
5.0
Wow.
I put off reading this book for so long. Normally, I really don't get on with dual perspective - particularly when it's jumping between time periods - but this novel was just so damn clever. These two stories are intricately woven together with little markers in each one that draw them closer, that make one mirror the other - even if the events being told are completely different. It's a book with a very small cast of characters, yet each of them jumps off of the page. They're thoughtful, complex, interesting - and the book doesn't fall into the cliché that I've seen plenty of novels (usually thrillers) do over and over again. What a fantastic book.
I would highly recommend the audiobook - which is narrated by actress Hayley Atwell and who does a brilliant job at pulling the tension out of the novel and putting it into the character voices.
