So I know reviews are supposed to be un-biased but the truth is Simon vs. The Homo Sapiens Agenda is one of my favorite books and I’ve been patiently waiting for The Upside of Unrequited. I received it around 3pm, began reading it around 8pm, and finished it at 10am the next day.

I’m trying to put my thoughts together about the book but one thing keeps bubbling up. I. Love. This. Book. The story. The characters. Especially Molly.

Molly is like a lot of of seventeen year old girls. Self conscious. Not thin and skinny like her twin. She’s smart, funny, and a Pinterest queen. And the kicker, she’s had twenty-six crushes, but none of them have ended in a kiss…or the boy even knowing she likes them.

The book begins with Molly and her fraternal twin Cassie at a club. By chance, Molly meets Mina, the girl of Cassie’s dreams in the bathroom. Life, being what it is, ends up giving Molly a chance to introduce Mina and Cassie, and their relationship blooms from there.

This book isn’t about Cassie and Mina, though they are large parts of it. The book is about Molly and her struggle to step outside her comfort zone and in her words, become more “uncareful.” To do what most are terrified to do and take a chance.

While there are lots of parts of the book that I like, one of my favorite parts of is the Supreme Court decision on same sex marriage. I know that this was a big day for our country. No matter how you feel personally about the decision, it affected thousands if not millions of people. In the book the community is so happy about the decision. I live in Oklahoma, and it is difficult to imagine that kind of acceptance, and excitement.

I could gush about this book for hours but I don’t want the review to be too long. Pick it up, give it thirty minutes, you’ll be hooked. Once your finished, go pick up Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda and enjoy it too.
