Few books, yet alone young adult books, are filled with the kind of suspense that gives me nightmares. The Prince of Mist is well written and balances old (somewhat cliche) seaside mystery with a few new ideas. It was short, and perhaps could have benefited from more detailed characterization of the protagonists.
