This book was just okay for me. While it had some spooky moments and an overall solid plot, it didn’t quite captivate me as much as I’d hoped. That said, the way ghosts function in the story is definitely unique and refreshing.

Jacob, the ghostly best friend to female lead, was a highlight for me. His silly yet endearing personality added a nice touch of humor to balance the creepy vibe. He’s my favorite character so far, and I’m really hoping he doesn’t turn out to be bad! I’m also curious to see how Schwab develops him in future books. However, I wish the story had given us more insight into Jacob’s backstory—what happened to him and why he decided to help Cassidy. While I suspect these questions might be addressed later in the series, I would have appreciated some answers in this book to avoid feeling like I missed something.

The setting of Edinburgh was a standout element, and the story felt wonderfully grounded in its eerie, atmospheric location. The balance of creepy and funny moments worked well, making this a quick and enjoyable listen. Ghosts are usually right up my alley, and while I didn’t love this book as much as I wanted to, I’m intrigued to see where Schwab takes Cassidy and Jacob next.
