This is not a novel but an expansion to a role-playing game. That said, there is a lot of text describing a plethora of monsters in here. The concept of the game is intrigued and the creatures reflect that. However, the creative back  story isn’t always used to its fullest, because so many of the listed creatures function in very similar ways, and that is kill everything in a gruesome way and/or torture the soul for eternity. It gets tiresome and a bit juvenile at times.
