Eat Your Way Sexy: The straightforward guide to losing the weight and having the confidence to own who you are by Nadia Rizzo

Popsugar 2020: A book with an upside-down image on the cover.

Today's review is of a category I do not typically read- self-help and "dieting." That being said, I do not think this book is your typical diet book. It is more of a tips and tricks and self-empowerment book, and I was honestly blown away by it. So here is my review of Eat Your Way Sexy: The straightforward guide to losing the weight and having the confidence to own who you are by Dr. Nadia Rizzo.

Nadia Rizzo is Naturopathic Doctor and the author of this insightful, quick read. For those not familiar with naturopathic medicine, this is the definition from Web MD: "Naturopathic medicine is a system that uses natural remedies to help the body heal itself. It embraces many therapies, including herbs, massage, acupuncture, exercise, and nutritional counseling."

This book is packed with the real. Dr. Rizzo doesn't sugar coat anything and I think that is why I resonated with this book so much. She talks about believing in God, and cusses. It felt real to me. It felt like I was talking to myself. Dr. Rizzo starts the book off by explaining that "sexy" isn't a number, isn't a dress size. She states that sexy is a state of mind and will come when you are in alignment with your spiritual self. Now, I thought this sounded a bit "Woo Woo" at first, and Dr. Rizzo addresses that as well. She talks a lot about the ideas and words we both think and speak and how powerful they are at shaping not only our mind, but our body. I am a negative person by nature, and in my own weight journey I know that the last few years have been less than centered. My biggest weight loss since college occurred when I went back to church, had positive thoughts and self confidence, and was happy in my professional and personal life. I didn't go to the gym or really do a lot as far as my eating choices, but the pounds came off because I was happy (and not sedentary) so I bought into her message.

Without giving all of her tips away, one of the key take-aways I took from the book was her discussion on stress and the weight loss journey. I work in a high stress environment, but I also have many colleagues that do HiIT workouts and do a lot of extreme fitness activities. Dr. Rizzo talks about "Adrenal fatigue" and that it can thwart the best weight loss attempts. In a nutshell, stress is a flight or fight response and can repress digestion which is a major component in weight loss. Putting your body through more stress, even if it is in the pursuit of burning calories, can be counter-productive. Dr. Rizzo recommends walking and yoga as alternatives to help in your weight loss journey.

There were many gems throughout this book and I highlighted more areas than I expected. Dr. Rizzo writes at the end of her book that this book will help millions. I agree with her. I am happy to say that I am one of the first to have read, reviewed, and been enlightened by her work. I highly recommend checking it out for yourself.

Happy Reading!
