Frostbite by Richelle Mead
4.0
Rose Hathaway, 17 year old novice Damphir, is about to take her Qualifiers in order to finally become a Guardian. Rose is already dealing with her inappropriate, unshakeable feelings for Dimitri, her much older mentor and her growing distance with her best friend Dragomir Princess, Vassilisa (Lissa). To top it all off, when Dimitri and she arrive at the examination they find something neither of them ever thought would happen that day. A pack of Strigoi has attacked, changing everyone's plans to go away for the holidays. The Academy decides to send all their students to a ski resort in Idaho, so that all families can come together and feel safe. Rose thinks this vacation will be fun, unfortunately for her, things go a bit haywire. Her good friend, Mason, has a giant crush on her, her mother, the famous Janine Hathaway, has unexpectedly returned a new, mysterious man named Adrian Ivashkov seems interested in her and Lissa and Dimitri seems to be interested in someone else not to mention all the Strigoi threats as well. When Mason and two other classmates go missing, Rose takes it upon herself, with the help from Lissa's new boyfriend Christian Ozera, to go out, find them and bring them home safely. Are they successful? READ THE BOOK TO FIND OUT! :D
THE ENDING WAS NOT OKAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm not going to spoil, but honestly my heart is broken. Not cool Richelle, not cool. I think I enjoyed Frostbite more than VA. It had more action and intensity that I didn't get when reading VA. I will admit the beginning of the book was a bit slow for me, but it definitely picked up in the middle of the book!
Rose: I like Rose a lot more in this book then in VA. She is still bad ass and loveable, but now she has a sense of maturity about her. I like how her character developed into a more responsible Guardian as the story progressed.
Lissa: I really didn't like Lissa very much in this book. It really bothered me how all her attention was directed towards Christian and when it was obvious Rose needed someone to talk to she completely looked past it and only focused on herself.
Dimitri: Still a bad ass, still love him. Although it was very annoying how he wouldn't just admit his feeling for Rose...
Adrian Ivashkov: YES. YES. A MILLION TIMES YES!! I love Adrian!!! He is such a strong character! I love how witty and hilarious he is. I found him extremely annoying when he was first introduced but as the story progressed he grew on me.
Overall, I loved this book. The ending was a stab to the heart, but other than that, FABULOUS! Can't wait to get my hands on Shadow Kiss!
