Usually I’m not big on short story collections but Neal seems to just be overflowing with ideas for his series to be able to write so many interesting ones!
Some stories I liked more or less than others, but overall I was just racing through them. They sometimes go to the extremes of gruesomeness that the unwind series provides, yet others filled me with hope. I went from smiling to the rolling of my stomach because of how horrible some of it was.
The stories add onto the ideas and world building of the unwind series. They also build on some of the characters we know. All in all a diverse collection of stories broadening the unwind universe.
I am also pleasantly surprised to see a character confirmed as queer. He, Hayden is my favourite character and he read as very queer coded to me but I wasn’t sure whether that was intentional. I’m glad to have that confirmation now. I only wish his short story would have been longer. I need more of him!
