In an odd way, I feel disappointed in this book, because it feels like a huge course correction from the second book. I’m disappointed that this book feels like it left so many threads from the second one behind, but at the same time, I’m relieved because I liked this book so much more. While I appreciated how the second book dealt with the moral and political ramifications of having an extraterrestrial species living on Earth, there wasn’t much that happened in the book. In this book, we still have some of those political and moral considerations, but I appreciated how they were also intermixed with more action and drama.
I didn’t at first like the relationship between Cora and Paris, because of the previous relationship between Cora and Kaveh and that he and Paris were friends. But I didn’t like Cora and Kaveh’s relationship in the second book anyway, so if I kind of forget that that even existed, I like Cora in Paris’s relationship, and I like Paris as a character.
If I can ignore some of the awkward, weird stuff from the previous two books with Sol, I also liked his arc in this book.
I also liked how we finally addressed some of the family dynamics that were completely left behind in book two with Cora and all of her family members.
I’ll admit that when I started this book and realized that it wasn’t the final installment of the series, I was pretty sure I was just going to stop here. But after getting through all of the book, I will continue with the series.
