A Sea of Unspoken Things by Adrienne Young

adventurous emotional mysterious reflective sad tense medium-paced

4.0

Adrienne Young is one of my favourite authors so I couldn’t wait to read A Sea of Unspoken Things and while it doesn’t hold the same feelings for me as her previous books, the beautiful writing, atmospheric setting of a small town and an intriguing plot filled with mystery didn’t disappoint, the way she can make you feel and visualise every description and emotion is absolutely beautiful and her writing style is incredible for this very reason.

I love the way that she writes a slow burn it has so many layers that you need to peel back a lot of in depth layers to finally get to what’s underneath and when it hits its always worth the build up and the wait.

The pacing was very slow for most of the book, I loved the mystery aspect and trying to work out what actually happened within this small town it just felt like it took a long time to actually get there but the twists and turns at the end was so well done, the only thing I really found missing or it felt less of was the magic realism like in spells of forgetting and the unmaking of June sparrow which is something I really enjoy. I did really love the ending though and how everything wrapped up and found it so satisfying.

Thank you so much to the publisher and NetGalley for the gift of reading this arc.
