Slow to start, but once I saw the emerging romance, I was happily drawn into this sweet story. Beyond the love story, this book touches on issues of race, class, and gender (that never seem to go away, unfortunately), so there is more to this little book than just the romantic aspect. Major Pettigrew is a completely endearing character; I shall not forget him!
