“It’s easy for me to accept that my life is trivial, and that I am a speck of dust. It is hard for me to accept that for the people around me, however … I feel simultaneously intensely insignificant and hyper aware of how important everyone is.”
Wow. I’ve been marinating on this review for a day, trying to string together words about how phenomenal this novel was.
A stunning portrait of depression, sprinkled with dry humor and astute reflections on the human condition. As Gilda wars with her own mind, she reflects on the imperfections of memory, the passing of time, and the little moments of love that make us human.
Graphic: Alcoholism, Death, Mental illness, and Suicidal thoughts
Moderate: Animal death, Death, Medical content, Grief, and Car accident
Minor: Bullying, Homophobia, and Religious bigotry
