This was certainly something on the hill, but it was not Hill House.

Elizabeth Hand’s prose is gorgeous. That’s the only thing that kept me slogging through this thing. I couldn’t connect with any of the characters. I didn’t care about them, nor did I care about the main driver of the story. If you took away the Hill House moniker, and removed Jackson’s pedigree, you’ve got a run of the mill haunted house story that doesn’t do anything unique.

YMMV. Please don’t let my experience derail yours.
