Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn
☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️

▪️A dark, twisted, manically morbid tale that is expertly crafted to wring out every drop of suspense and tension
▪️The dual POV storytelling was perfect for this novel, giving hints and red herrings hidden among enough real details that every element was worth questioning. I was especially enamoured by the turn from Diary Amy in part one to Real Amy in part two, which is definitely one of the best reveals I've ever had the pleasure of reading
▪️The characterisation of both Nick and Amy is wonderful. They're equally painted with admirable traits and dark, shameful qualities to the extent that they ultimately feel incredibly human and, at whatever level, relatable
▪️There is something to be said for an author who can build multiple twists into a story and craft it so well you don't see them coming, but Flynn has truly outdone herself here. I love how the story continues to challenge you until the very last sentence
▪️To crudely and unnecessarily highlight another book in comparison as my summary: this is everything "Verity" wishes it could be.

"There's something disturbing about recalling a warm memory and feeling utterly cold."

"I understand now why so many horror movies use that device - the mysterious knock on the door - because it has the weight of a nightmare."

"All this time I'd thought we were strangers, and it turned out we knew each other intuitively, in our bones, in our blood."
