This is the 99th book I've read this year and when asked previously, I didn't have one clear favorite. Now I do.
This book was incredibly written from start to finish, woven together so artfully. The story of Ruthie's disappearance with alternating viewpoints were so compelling that I could not put it down. Joe and Norma's stories pulled at my heartstrings as Joe felt so keenly the loss of his youngest sister while Norma felt like there was something always missing in her life.
To understand intergenerational trauma and challenges indigenous people have faced for the past century, look no further than this book. It will suck you in, it will make you cry, it will make you hope against hope for some happiness among the hardship. And it will leave you thinking about it for a long time. Amanda Peters wrote a masterpiece for her debut and it is a must read. I can't wait to see what she writes next.
