Raku & Miari: Raises the Bar on "Fated Mates"- 5 stars!

TAKEN TO VORAXIA is the first in a series of books featuring the Xiveri Mates. Book One of the series does not disappoint!

We meet Miari, a hybrid female resident of a small human colony. Miari finds herself trying to elude "The Hunt", a ritual that is held in her quadrant where a brutish, alien species travels to the colony to engage in the activity of hunting human women and breeding them against their will. Miari, a child born of a previous hunt decides to run away to avoid Raku, the leader of planet Voraxia, who discovered Miari was his "xiveri" aka "Rakukanna" (Queen) on a previous visit to her colony for his first Hunt. After discovering that she was not of age to participate in the Hunt, Raku vows to return for her. Not to give away too much of the plot, shenanigans ensue and ultimately, Miari discovers that she is Raku's "xiveri" (fated mate).

Raku and Miari's story is excellent! Their journey to love was not an easy one and will definitely tug at your heartstrings as you root for them. Miari is sweet and will win you with her honesty and resilience. Despite his dominant nature as ruler, Raku will win you with his patience and acquiescence.

Elizabeth Stephens is such a brilliant Wordsmith! Stephens is a master at character creation and world building in this book. She has displayed this through the creation of an entire language of distinctive words, terms, and various alien customs. Midway through the book, I could read fluent "Voraxian", and I was convinced I was interpreting an actual language! TAKEN TO VORAXIA has raised the bar of the "fated mates" trope in paranormal romance. The diversity of characters, brilliantly complex dialogue, and rich plot ranks this book one of the BEST alien romance books I have read to date.

This is one of those series that you can easily find yourself lost in and I have easily moved on to Book Two! These are standalones but should really be read in order to fully understand the plot and theme of the books. Stephens continues to amaze me with her stories. If you love alien romance and hardcore aliens who will do anything and fight to the death for their "xiveri", then start this series today! Added bonus: by the book's end, you'll speak fluent Voraxian too.

Happy Reading!
