Rebanks take the reader through a year of shepherding with sidelines into his families' history and the history of raising sheep in the Lake District. What I found striking about his telling is that he always knew this is the life he wanted to have. He resisted education and then succumbed to enrollment at Oxford. His education served to reinforce his feelings about his way of life.
