Frozen Heat by Richard Castle
4.0
One of the best books — if not the best book — in this particular series.
I enjoyed Nikki Heat as a character once again. Especially since this book’s murder case was linked to her mother’s murder and we get to learn a lot more about her back story and her as a person. She is likable but also real and has depth. The events of her past have clearly shaped her and trigger in her a resolve to get justice. And she has the perfect partner in Rook to get to the bottom of things. He is not only a savvy investigative reporter, but also someone who is there for her in the darkest of times.
I love that New York City is pretty much a character in this story too. The abandoned subway station was an especially cool element.
But my favorite scene takes place in Paris: Heat and Rook on Pont Neuf. With the dark waters of the Seine as a great metaphor for the turmoil that was swirling inside Heat.
