These Things Linger by Dan Franklin
dark
slow-paced
3.5
Could it be, a horror book that … is actually well thought out and aesthetically pleasing?
The first chapter reels you in with hook lines and bait, I found that the small-town horror and community stay consistently well done. It really sells the empty haunting landscape and the hot summer nights. On that flip side, I did find some of the city to feel pretty empty, which might have been the point (Never really escaping that home town) but I'd have like to feel some contrast in the setting before he ... well you'll know when you get there.
There were a couple of predictable scenes that felt like dead ends before they really got into it which did effect how quickly I finished the book, but there were also some very unexpected twists that I genuinely didn't see coming. The ending both had me and didn't, once I settled into the direction it was heading I climatised and got to finish on a high night.
Better than your average horror, will be coming back to read more from Dan Franklin.
