The Secret Book of Flora Lea by Patti Callahan Henry
5.0
This is a wonderful and beautifully written book that will stay with me! I've read a lot of WW2 historical fiction but this one is different than any of the other WW2 books I've read. The story begins in 1939 in a small village in the countryside in England where 14 yr old Hazel and 5 yr old Flora are being billeted since they were evacuated from London. It seems that they are living in a fairy tale in a magical place with a wonderful family until Flora disappears after seemingly falling into the river. We jump around between the past and the present (which is 1960, 20 yrs in the future) where Hazel finds a clue that may lead her to her lost but never forgotten sister. I loved this book so much! I couldn't put it down!
