This was a very touching and emotional book that followed the main character Santa and read as she is pushed into prostitution stringing her lovers along until her downfall. Santa’s personal demons continue to surface when Santa is no longer wanted at any local brothels, Hipolito becomes determined to take care of her. Santa’s story shows not only the adverse effects that Santa’s charms had on society as well as the men that she had influenced but also on her health. This book is one that I will remember and is one of the many examples of the of Femme Fatales in 19th-Century and 20th-Century Latin America.
