I picked this up because I’m constantly getting ads for it on Instagram. It was just okay. Hen seems to be tangentially Black. Like, it’s barely described until maybe 3/4 of the way through the book which is obnoxious. I understand that sometimes non-white authors worry about writing non-white characters, but that is very much not my problem. Commit to the fact that you’re writing a Black woman or don’t do it.
