4.5

Solid 4.5! My slight issue is that the book takes place over a weekend which is unbelievable because it’s so action packed. The sex scenes don’t read as YA but Sass writes in his acknowledgments that the book wasn’t originally YA so this may be why. The epilogue feels realistic that not all queer kids in the US get a happy ending and may wait years for their families to accept them. Ending his acknowledgments, Sass sums up the novel well: “A final thank you to Connor Major: We’ve spent the last decade together, and I’m so proud of you for holding on. I finally got you off the island, just like I promised. I will miss writing you, but now you get to hang out with new friends, our readers.”
