The Ferryman by Justin Cronin

Did not finish book. Stopped at 22%.
DNF, so no rating.

I tried with this one. I gave it more than 100 pages, because I still remember enjoying his Passage trilogy, though it had its slow points.

But, almost a quarter of the way in, very little was happening. There was the event in the drawn out prologue, then there was Proctor getting someone (I won't spoil anything) to the ferry. And Proctor met a young girl. That was most of it.

100 pages.

And, for an island that was supposed to be a paradise, with super-human inhabitants, they talked like us. They acted like us. They do their nine-to-five jobs like us.

Um...I'm sorry, but going to an office, training newbies, and filling out reports hardly sounds like paradise. It sounds like my last corporate job in Toronto. No thanks.

This did nothing for me, except disappoint me.
