To me, Brigid Kemmerer’s books are a safe bet. The world building is always on point and the narrative character-driven. Starting the Forging Silver into Stars was entering a comfort zone, no surprise or specific expectations here. Without surprise, the first book captivated me with its rich storytelling and emotional depth !

One of Kemmerer’s greatest strengths lies in her ability to craft nuanced, relatable characters, and this novel is no exception. The story centers on three protagonists, each with their own struggles and triumphs. There’s Callyn, a resilient baker trying to keep her family afloat in a small town; Jax, her fiercely loyal and outspoken best friend; and Tycho, a former stable boy turned King’s Courier who is grappling with his new role in the court. Their paths cross as they’re drawn into the heart of a brewing rebellion against King Grey’s rule, forcing them to face impossible choices that test their loyalties and reshape their identities.

I enjoyed how the story delves deeply into questions of loyalty and trust, between friends, lovers, and rulers, and how these bonds are tested in the face of fear and uncertainty. In true Kemmerer fashion, Forging Silver into Stars is a poignant and thrilling journey, a gripping tale of love, loyalty, and resilience in the face of political upheaval. She masterfully balances high-stakes drama with heartfelt character moments and proves, once again, that she’s a master of blending heartfelt character moments with a world full of intrigue and tension.
