The Hunted Heir is the second installment of The Veiled Kingdom series and, unfortunately, not much of an improvement over the first book.

The main characters show little development, and the supporting characters—especially Kai and Wren—don't get nearly enough time on the page. Dacre moves from insta-lust to insta-love and suddenly decides to give up everything for Nya/Verena, despite barely knowing her. I also wasn’t a fan of her magic seemingly being tied to him in some way.

Overall, it was a quick, short read for in between, but nothing particularly memorable.
