Lord of Chaos by Robert Jordan
3.0
GOTTA READ THE WHEEL OF TIME, BABY.
It's happened, folks. The much maligned Slog has entered the ring. People disagree with where it starts but I feel it begins in earnest here. It's the first volume I have notably enjoyed less than previous volumes.
I struggled with this one. I had my issues with the weird subplots in the previous book,[b:The Fires of Heaven|13895|The Fires of Heaven (The Wheel of Time, #5)|Robert Jordan|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1327866286l/13895._SY75_.jpg|588034], but I thought it was a thoughtful book of the series with great developments for Nynaeve, a character I previously struggled to identify with. But part of my major problems with the book were the dead ends it took her in particular to.
Lord of Chaos remedies that by being both more focused and more boring. I don't know how Jordan does it. Most of this book is spent characters talking about what they're doing instead of doing them until the last 100 pages. No amount of Dumai's Wells can make up for it. By the time I got there I was disappointed with how little the characters had progressed.
It's not all bad as we get some quality stuff for Egwene and Rand but hoo boy do we work for it. I honestly cannot be bothered to finish my thoughts. It is a WOT book. Unearned length, poor pacing, explosive finish. Bam.
6/14, people. I feeling the burn already.
