Rory is the daughter of two well known parents. She is recruited into the Ever After afterschool program. She has no idea what it really is (a training ground for fairy tale characters) but on her first day she helps slay a dragon. In her day to day world, Rory has learned to remain quiet and agreeable, it's the best way to keep her parents happy or pretending to be happy. But at Ever After, where no one knows who her parents are, Rory is able to find out who she is, and she is able to find her voice.
I really really liked this story, for lots of reasons. I am a huge fan of fairy tale retellings , especially if they are done right and in a unique way. What i enjoyed most was that Rory was not the hopeless damsel in distress. And her story is slowly unfolding. She just discovered Ever After and she doesn't have to go out and save the world right away. Her story isn't the one that comes up, but she goes along and learns more about the fairy tale world and herself. She pushes herself and makes friends with some unlikely characters. While this was a complete story, it was also a great beginning and it showed that so much more was going on. Even with Rory having to move at the end, there are secrets to the Ever After school that we have yet to see. I can't wait for the next book!
