This seems to be vaguely inspired by Lizzie Borden. In 1929 all members of the Hope family are killed except Lenora. However, with no actual evidence she committed the crime, she is never arrested. Decades later, she is a hermit in the same family home where the murders occurred. Children chant rhymes about the crime and most believe she did it. Kit is a caregiver (coming off a tragedy of her own) hired to care for Lenora. It seems Lenora is ready to tell the truth of what happened that night. What transpires after that leads you on a gothic mystery you want to solve.

There were several twists to this story and I figured out all but one. But that one was a big one. I enjoyed this book but was disappointed with some aspects of the ending. While some of it is resolution, some of it is just really selfish people doing really selfish stuff. But the story is one I recommend!
