I didn’t think I’d like this book as much as I did. I originally picked it up only because a bookstagrammer I follow kept going on about how she loved this book and no one knew anything about it so I became curious. I decided to read the book for myself and see what I was missing out on (if there was something) and...wow...this was incredibly original and out there I must admit.

I liked that the majority of the story was based around Jack’s hallucinations and not something like a stupid cliche love story, although the ending was a bit unexpected for me—instead of being just friends they realize they’ve had feelings for each other the whole time (maybe could have been fleshed out more) and become BFs.

Just to make it clear the author said (on GR) that Jack is Bi and August is Questionable—She clearly depicted August’s sexuality. He’s trying to hold onto something that feels “normal”. I had a bit of trouble understanding Jack’s sexuality. Maybe it was because she did such a good job with the slow decline in his sanity that I struggled with believing it, since that’s the main focus with Jack. Maybe she could have dropped hints that were stronger from Jack since he is losing it. There were some that were dropped that were questionable b/c Jack is delusional.

Also in the end when they start shrink starts talking about August having codependency issues, it leaves me confused because he’s in love (while somewhat rejecting the idea in the ward) with Jack at the end so was he ever really codependent or was it just dedicated love?

But, f**k, Jack was unpredictable and I loved that. I legit thought he was going to kill August—and the worst part is that I don’t think August would have mind being killed by Jack. Lol. August was such a masochist.

I felt like there was information missing (since this was told from the POV of a fairly sane person). The parents’ absence all the time was never really clarified (they travel for work but come on do all the parents do that? This is a small town?!). They kind of come and go as they wish which bothered me and Jack wasn’t supposed to have nice things because he isn’t rich but his parents can travel? It didn’t make sense. And what happened to the Rina and the twins? We could have gotten more from them towards the end since they were in the story a lot.
