To Hate Adam Connor by Ella Maise

3.0

I actually read this book before reading Jason and Olive's book. Seeing that couple so in love made me have to go back and read it.

Anywho, this book focuses on Adam Connor, the recently divorced Academy Award Winning single dad, who recently moved next to Jason and Olive. Olive's best friend, Lucy is similarly newly single after her boyfriend suddenly breaks up with her and moves cross country. What a jerk!

Lucy is an unfiltered, strong, and outspoken woman, which made reading from her point of view fun and, at times, a little much. I never understood her obsession with Olive's boobs even after reading book one. It was a little weird.

I kind of like how the author turned Lucy's obsession with Adam Connor on its head in the beginning. She starts spying on the hot actor over the fence but when his son's nanny leaves five-year-old Aiden in the pool unattended, Lucy's forced to leave her secret spying post and come to the rescue. Being constantly swarmed by paparazzi has Adam on edge, so he mistakes her for a crazed fan and has her arrested. Gone, poof is Lucy's crush on the hot neighbor and a deep disdain takes root.

Like book one, this book is a slow burn. Lucy comes from a long line of women who have been mistreated by men, so her trust in men—even good men, like Adam—is gone. I love romances where the guy has to work to get the girl. In this one, it was even more entertaining because as a famous movie star, Adam is used to women throwing themselves at him, but not Lucy.

Their romance takes time to blossom. Lucy falls in love with Adam's son, Aiden but it takes time for Adam to prove to her that he is able to be trusted. Most of all, it takes time for Lucy to heal and see that she is worthy of being loved.

Each of these books can be read as standalones and I'd hit that "TO READ" button for TO HATE ADAM CONNOR and TO LOVE JASON THORNE in a heartbeat. I think I'm going to miss both of these couples.
