I knew I was going to like this book from the get go, not just because of loving the first one, but because it starts off with an epilogue. I love when writers play around like that. I also loved the humor and how much I actually laughed out loud. I feel like it started with Baz’s list of things he hates and never stopped. The gang finding all the different things about England and America was great and I don’t think the smile left my face for the entirety of the Renaissance festival chapters. I know some people didn’t care for this one because of how different it was from the first, but by the nature of where things left off there, it had to be. I really appreciated seeing how the characters all coped with their lives being completely turned upside down and how they adapted and changed, especially while also being in an unfamiliar environment. We don’t often see what would be the aftermath to such a seismic shift at the end of fantasy novels or series, so I appreciated how Rowell shows that the characters wouldn’t just be able to ride off into the sunset and have everything be all hunky dory.
