Gabbert's 2024 collection Any Person Is the Only Self was one of my favorite books of last year, so I snatched up this pocket-sized collection when I saw it in an indie bookstore last fall.

While it did not bring me *quite* the level of joy of Any Person, this work is filled with the same intelligence and love of reading and the craft of writing that continues to make Gabbert one of my favorite modern essayists and critics.
