Teen Titans: Raven by Kami Garcia

5.0

Series: Teen Titans #1
Rating: 5 stars - I loved it!

When a tragic accident takes the life of Raven Roth’s foster mom, and her memory, she ends up in New Orleans to recover and finish up her senior year of high school. But starting over isnt’ easy, especially when she starts to hear voices.

As a huge Teen Titans fan, I knew I was going to like this book, especially since Raven is my favorite titan. Raven’s story was one of loss, love, teenage heartache, and accepting oneself. It was terrible that she lost her adoptive mother and her memory, but she really had a wonderful aunt and cousin who accepted and helped her. Also I really loved that her cousin and aunt both had their own magic.

I am very interested in seeing how Raven’s story will continue. Slade’s motives are still a mystery but we already know he doesn’t mind manipulating people. I am also very interested in seeing how her parentage will come into play in the future comics.

Overall, this was a wonderful graphic novel about Raven. Also the artwork in this was beautiful. I loved the muted grays, blues, and purples. It really worked well with Raven and her story. I can’t wait to jump into the next volume and learn about Beast Boy!

Trigger warnings: Death of adopted mother in a car accident. Grief.
