I HIGHLY recommend reading the prequel novella (A Kingdom of Gods and Ruin) before starting this book. It will help you understand and relate to one of the characters far better.

I loved this book and can't wait to read more from this series. The Villain was awful and the plot was intriguing.

I love reluctant bromance stories like this.  It was fun to read this and recognize the parallels to Aladdin (like realizing which character is the genie, Abu, Jafar, etc). I also enjoyed the parallels to Rapunzel.

As a kid I loved watching Aladdin on repeat-- As an adult I'm happy I now have an Aladdin that aged up with me to be grittier, darker, and more compelling! I can always count on these authors to take me to "a whole new world". Can't wait to read more books in this series!

⚠️CW: This book does have a genie character which involves the "genie"/master dynamic due to the magic binding them, but (like aladdin) the master that we see does not abuse this dynamic. It does mention past masters that did not respect them and took advantage of this dynamic.
