My body has a mind of its own and is constantly screaming for independence. It would probably get along just fine without me.

Really enjoyed the commentary this book had regarding modern online dating culture; gender as a performance with an inconsistent, made up script; and, the physical and emotional pain caused when one tries desperately to fit in. The actual form of this text was interesting and worked to make the voice of the alien narrator more visceral, but I’d be lying if I said that it didn’t make the reading experience a little bit jarring at times. I appreciate that that was the point, but still. I ended up picking up the audiobook halfway through reading this and the vocal performance truly elevated the impact of this book.
