Piece Us Together by T.J. Hamel
5.0
4.5 stars. An amazing conclusion for Nolan's, Maison's and now Hunter's story. It felt like a breath of fresh air having a MMM relationship/throuple in this universe, even more when it includes a character from the outside that isn't related to such horrible past experiences.
This second book follows the main conflict from book one, about Maison and Nolan loving each other but. Enter Hunter, an experienced dom who's part of a kink community. Maison asks for his help in order to give Nolan what he needs. Hunter agrees, but things get blurred when feelings start getting involved, meanwhile Maison is faced with his own demons.
As expected, this sequel focused more on Maison, while book one was more about Nolan. The author goes in depth about Maison's struggles, offering the perspective from each MC, and it feels very compelling. The mental health topic surrounding Maison was well shown and the recovery was portrayed organically.
One thing that bothered me was how in book 3 of the main trilogy (Monstrous Deeds), Carter, which I can understand it's part of his character development, but it was crazy to me that he could . Thankfully that was addressed here, Maison genuinely deserved better. I do think that he went too easy on him, and I still keep some resentment towards Carter. At least Maison is happy with his partners, family and friends now.
Speaking about Maison's partners, the addition of Hunter to the couple was really nice. I'm usually open to read about poly relationships in fiction, but I was a bit scared for this one. While I wasn't too into Hunter becoming infactuated with Maison as soon as they interacted, I'm glad it did work in the long run. My favorite from the trio will forever be Nolan, but the combination of Nolan's submission, Maison's neediness and Hunter's dominating role were perfect.
There were small details that made this a bit less than an actual 5 stars, which are: some of the petnames ("kitten", "good boy") felt a bit overused at times, and certain dialogues became a bit too cheesy for my liking, especially during some scenes about the kink lifestyle outside of sex. There's also the thing about Maison near the end, which honestly wasn't where I wanted this to go, I usually don't like it when such things are treated like a goal, and I would've prefered that even after Maison healed, he maintained his preferences.
Despite that, this was an really good book. Overall, it felt comforting and the topics of sexuality exploration, kink/limits discovery and trauma recovery were nicely developed. I can't wait for Ace and Matt's book, same with Max's own story and Bryce's.
