The simplicity of the plot is an excellently used technique because it allows Ethan, the main character, to become the focal point for the reader. Ethan was — well, just so sweet and lovable! I felt an emotional connection with him from the very beginning. Ethan's thoughts and actions are so realistically portrayed; and because of this, his struggles with monochromacy resonate exceptionally well with the reader. The grayscale world that Ethan sees is adeptly presented — it definitely made me stop and think: What would it be like for me to be trapped in a colorless world except for the color green?... So, yeah, I could say a lot more but reading This Gray Canvas for yourself would be a much better way to experience the full depth and beauty of this heartwarming story.
