Oh, what a wonderful book. Unusual in all its aspects, original, fresh, and . . . well, "wonderful" really does sum it up.
It's a refreshing take on the "planet of women" trope that pops up in SF so often (maybe less often than it used to, but still).
It's also a fascinating mediation on what makes a strong female character. So often, in SF and fantasy, the strong women are the warriors. I love a good woman warrior as much as the next person (Hi, Bobbie! Hi, Jenny!) but it's also important to talk about strong women who don't fight. Who garden and cook and get cold and complain and give up, and who are, in the end, the strongest damn women on the planet.
Anyway, please read this.
