The Christie Affair by Nina de Gramont
3.0
Type of read: Commuter Read.
What made me pick it up: What originally led me to the book was Reese's Book Club list, but what made me want to read it was the subject matter. I'm a big Agatha Christie fan and 'The Christie Affair' seemed like it was right up my alley. Hoping so as a few of the Reese's Book Club books lately have not been great.
Overall rating: Here's the thing, it wasn't until like 3/4 of the way through the book that I actually got into it. I feel like de Gramont tried to channel Christie's style for 'The Christie Affair.' Unfortunately, it came off as unintentionally rambling, jumpy, and overworked. There were parts of the book where I was in love! It had excellent writing, a great plot, and the characters were making sense and working together; however, there were parts of the book that I wanted to skip or fast-forward through because it seemed to drag on and on. There is A LOT of time hoping in this book. It might be easier to follow in the print version, but in the audio version, you have to very much pay attention to who is talking and when. I never would have expected the ending or some of the twists and turns within the book, which I really enjoyed but overall, it was a lot to wade through to get to the good bits.
Reader's Note: 'The Christie Affair' includes themes of sexual assault.
