Every Poem a Potion, Every Song a Spell by Stephanie Parent

dark inspiring reflective

5.0

As someone who loves fairy tales and dark poetry, this was such an amazing read! The imagery was beautifully written, and I had so much fun analyzing and feeling like I was a part of the scenery. I loved the variety of fair tales included and how the author listed the name of the tale below the poem's title. There were so many I haven't heard of that I now have a list of fairy tales to research outside this collection.

Although the author states you can read these without having read the original fairy tale, for some it's not the case and I did have to search for a few to get a better understanding of the poem. I know for some that may take away from the experience, but that was my only complaint. And as the author mentions, there is a piece of her in every poem, and it's so fun reading through them and seeing how she connects with each story.

Overall, I really enjoyed this collection and will be buying a physical copy when possible.
