This book is part of a series, but works well as a standalone (I haven't read book #1 but now plan to). 4 stars - the plot is rich and multi-layered, so much so that I had to go back and reread in parts and still have questions! As police procedurals go, I really enjoyed this one. Riley is a great protagonist. Be warned, the book is HEAVY. The central plot hinges pretty largely upon violence toward women motivated by religion (hence the title) and it's a LOT. Nightmare-inducing for sure, so female readers should proceed with caution.
