As Brave as You by Jason Reynolds

5.0

Pretty standard plot ... 2 city boys go to live with their grandparents in the country. Jason Reynolds does such a great job of developing characters and weaving in just enough real-world problems to the story that it really works. There is alcohol abuse, Jim Crow, parents (and grandparents) fighting and facing possible divorce, small-town intrigue, and the ever-evolving problem of what it means to be a "man."
