Get the Picture: A Mind-Bending Journey among the Inspired Artists and Obsessive Art Fiends Who Taught Me How to See by Bianca Bosker
Did not finish book.
Read 6/10/24. A dive into the contemporary art world, including the roles of the gallerist, curator, artist, collector, and observer. Often irreverent and gossip-y, which makes this a fun read if you’re looking for the type of experience where a friend tells you all about that one new, horrible, or awesome job they’ve got and you’re just living it up vicariously. But similarly to that kind of storytelling, it’s hard to tell how much of what the author describes is just her singular experience or truly representative of what art culture is like now. I finished the book feeling that the art world remains about as opaque as it previously did to me, though the author seems to congratulate herself on ingratiating herself within it.
