Haunt Sweet Home by Sarah Pinsker
2.0
It's unfortunate because there's so much I enjoyed about this book, but the pacing was so off that I found it frustrating. The build up just kind of imploded upon itself in the last half and even if the ending itself was fine, it felt unsatisfying because the reveal lacked any complexity. Mara spends the first three quarters of the book refusing to be open to anyone about anything, to suddenly just start openly saying all the things she thinks without any semblance of the filter. And I like that she does finally say what she's thinking, but it feels like that comes from nowhere with no provocation. And like, if it was the influence of Jo, we can't really grasp that because it goes by so quickly. It was a promising concept for a story, and all the elements were there, but it just fell apart for me in the end.
