Querido Diego, te abraza Quiela by Elena Poniatowska

5.0

This short book is a wrenching series of letters from a woman who is living in very cold Paris to Mexico asking for news. Their child has died, she is poor and trying to support herself by painting. She misses him terribly after a ten year relationship. At some point he sends money and asks her to deliver money to a mistress and their child. He sends money, but never a letter. At the end of the book, it is revealed that she is writing to Diego Rivera. Although historical fiction usually does not appeal to me, this book written in Spanish paints a lovely picture of Angelina Beloff, the mother of Diego Rivera's child.
