I am unconvinced that Cunningham really added anything to Mrs. Dalloway. Personally, The Hours just felt like an imitation. Sure, he amped the queerness up to 11--and that's not nothing!--but idk, Clarissa Dalloway is queer in the original, so it didn't feel like a hot take or reimagining of the original masterpiece. I also reeeeally struggled to enjoy the Mrs. Brown plotline; if that plotline had really nailed it, I think the whole book would've worked better for me.
