People Change by Vivek Shraya

4.0

This is another short book with a lot to say. “People Change” is about reinvention and the power of being our true selves. Not true self, but true selves. Instead of focusing on being an ideal version of ourselves, we should be open to the idea of change and growth.

Vivek Shraya also talks about her realization of being trans, and about how she withheld parts of herself in her professional life, something I’m sure a lot of LGBTQIA+ people can relate to. I know I have done the same, and I probably still do at times.

Of course, it’s easy when talking about reinvention to bring Madonna into the conversation. Admittedly, it was the reference to her on the dust jacket that piqued my interest. I see a lot of value in Shraya’s message. There’s nothing wrong with reinventing yourself, changing, or growing. We should avoid being stagnant.
