Truly Devious by Maureen Johnson
2.0
Honestly, I was going into this book with high expectations because it's so highly rated for a modern murder mystery. However, I think the story fell flat because it tried too hard to focus on two murders at once. There really was a lack of development in the present day murder of Hayes, and no answers came out of the book; we were left as clueless as we were in the beginning by the end of the book. The murder from the 1930s also had lack of any form of development, and didn't stick with me at all.
I never really ended up falling in love with Stevie, or any of the characters. They felt flat, lacked motivation and didn't grow as much as I hoped they would. This is probably because there were so many characters introduced at once so I couldn't keep track of any of them.
I would not go back for the second and third book, to be honest.
